We know many of you have probably seen media reports and social media posts about the changes to poultry exhibition rules in the state of Ohio. In order to help prevent the spread of avian influenza, the Ohio Department of Agriculture has cancelled all poultry exhibitions in the state for 2015.
So that our 4-H members taking poultry projects may still complete a project and participate in the Scioto County Fair, we met with committee members and representatives of the Scioto County Fair to develop a plan.
Please review the 2015 Poultry Ban Factsheet and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact Josi or Jo at the Extension Office. You may also find additional information on the 4-H News & Special Events page.
We know this is a disappointment to you, but our primary concern is helping stop the spread of this disease to protect Ohio’s poultry industry. Additionally, we hope this helps you understand how you are part of the food production industry when you raise your 4-H projects.
Thanks for your understanding!
We have put together a packet for those youth who enrolled in a Market Poultry project. Materials in this packet were provided by LSU and it contains activities youth can complete for their Market Poultry projects. If you have any questions, please contact Jo Williams or Josi Brodt at 740-354-7879.
