Older youth in Scioto County are eligible to participate in Teen Leaders, Junior Fair Board, camp counseling, camps, CARTEENS, scholarships, trips, and state awards.

The Teen Leaders Club is for those 4-Hers ages 14 through 18. The club will be doing some leadership activities and fun trips in 2020. It is a great way to meet other teen 4-Hers from around the county. We also try to plan at least one fun outing every year for Teen Leaders and Junior Fair Board.

Junior Fair Board is for 4-H youth (and other junior fair organization youth) ages 15-18.  Junior Fair Board members are responsible for helping plan, organize and run most Junior Fair activities, including, pre-fair judging, Style Review, Cloverbud interviews and all Junior Fair shows. The Junior Fair Board members work closely with the county Extension staff, Senior Fair Board and all 4-H committees to ensure the success of the Scioto County Junior Fair activities.

Camp Counselors, serve at one or more of Scioto County’s four 4-H camps. All camp counselors must complete 24 hours of training according to American Camp Association. Counselors are responsible for helping plan and develop the camp program, in addition to serving as a counselor at the three-night resident camps held at Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp.

Statewide camps are available for older youth to attend. Youth may choose to apply for State Leadership Camp, Conservation Camp, Sea Camp, etc.

Trips, such as Citizenship Washington Focus and Leadership Washington Focus are an option for Scioto County 4-Hers. They take teen 4-H’ers, 12 to14 and 15 to 18 years old, to the National 4-H Conference Center outside of Washington, D.C. for a week of leadership and citizenship.

State Achievement Awards are an opportunity for older 4-Hers to be recognized for their accomplishments at the state and national level. One 4-Her from the state of Ohio is selected in each of the categories and receives a free trip to the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta.

Scholarships are available for those 4-Hers who are graduating from high school in 2020. Scholarships are available at the local and state level and range in amount from $500 to $2,000+.

If you are interested in any of the above-mentioned activities, awards or trips, please visit our 4-H Youth Development Teen Opportunites page for detailed information and application deadlines.
