Due to the current COVID-19 outbreak, there is a shortage of face masks for Medical Professionals. During this time, some hospitals and other Medical Professionals are using handmade masks to help extend the supply as approved by the CDC.

We were contacted by the Scioto County Emergency Operations Center (EOC), which is the clearinghouse for the distribution of any donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The EOC will coordinate with us to pick up and distribute the face masks throughout the county. Please email brodt-evans.1@osu.edu if you would like to be put in contact with the EOC.

Helping others is a great opportunity and our priority is keeping everyone safe and healthy. We encourage you to use supplies you have at home.
Please do not put yourself at risk or in any uncomfortable situation to purchase supplies. One of the common statements we have heard is that people have the cotton but struggle to locate elastic. An alternative to using elastic is to make fabric ties. Recommendations for this are 1/4 in. fabric bias tape or tubes with all edges turned inside, placed at the corner of the mask allowing the person to tie it on with their four ties. Ties need to be long enough. An estimate we found suggests 12 inches
